Investor country

Joint implementation allows Annex I Parties to implement projects that reduce emissions, or increase removals using sinks, in other Annex I countries. The country in which the project is hosted is called the host Party; the other Party (which provides the letter of approval to the investor, or non-host Party entity) is called the investor Party.

Emission reduction units (ERUs) generated by JI projects can be used by investor Parties to help meet their emissions targets. To avoid double counting, a corresponding subtraction is made from the host Party’s assigned amount.
